The Flint River is a beautiful waterway than runs thru Madison County and is in very close proximity to the city of Huntsville. Its flat and slow moving waters provide an easy day of floating. The Flint runs between high bluffs as well as wooded flatland, and if you look closely you can find entrances into many caves. Local people may have only experienced the upper Madison County section of the Flint, from Oscar Patterson down to Winchester area, but the lower Madison County segment of Flint River offers a vastly different experience. The Flint River south of highway 72, flowing into the Tennessee River, has deeper and wider waters that offer an easy and beautiful paddling experience. With the closest put-in less than 10 miles from the center of Huntsville, the southern segment of the Flint River is easy and quick access to an enjoyable day on the water! |
